Heather Hartshorn has spend her entire career managing nonprofits for 20 years. She came to the profession after serving in the first City Year corps and then studying how nonprofits in Northern Ireland alleviated conflict when no other institutions had been successful. Her work in Nigeria and the White House during college also focused on nonprofit development.
She is a long-time Lexington resident serving her community as a town-meeting member, Girl Scout leader, and soccer coach as well as running the town's Department of Social Services. Heather has been the executive director of nonprofits in the health care and education fields. Shealso served as the Deputy Director of the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network, the statewide association of nonprofit organizations. Combing her love of travel with her nonprofit expertise, in 2014 she was brought by the US State Department to Kazakhstan to assist nonprofits with capacity building.
Rebecca Farnham, Harrington
Rebecca has over 10 years of experience working as an elementary school counselor. She understands and appreciates the value of quality after-school programming. She has two young children, including a daughter at Harrington and a four year old son. "My children will be Lextended kids for the next ~7 years; our family's Lextended experience has been extremely positive so far, and I look forward to supporting the program through my work with the Board."
Kristen Grant, Bowman and Harrington
Kristen has 7 years of experience working as a special educator at the secondary level. After exploring other after school programming, she found Lextended Day to be the best fit for her children and appreciated how it supported their different interests. “Getting involved with the board and the Lextended community was an easy decision. It’s wonderful to see how the program engages all children and offers a variety of activities.”
Michael Cramer, Estabrook
Michael Cramer is the CFO of Slade Gorton. Micheal has previously worked in Finance roles at Keurig, Vistaprint, The Boston Beer Company, and Mastercard. He graduated from Bates College with a BA in Economics and from NYU's Stern School of Business with an MBA in Finance and Marketing. Michael lives in Lexington with his wife Lexi and his two sons, Max (8) and Zachary (5). Both boys attend the Lextended Day program at Estabrook. Both parents appreciate the Lextended Day team for making our lives a lot more manageable.
Board of Directors
Lextended Day is governed by a Board of Directors of parents from each of the sites. The board hires a professional staff to oversee the operations of the program.

Sarah has worked at The Steppingstone Foundation since 2004, a non-profit organization that develops and implements out-of-school time programs that prepare under served students for educational opportunities that lead to college success. As a parent of 2 children one at Hastings and one at Diamond, Sarah has been a part of the Lextended Day community since 2011 when her first child started kindergarten. The combination of her professional experience, her children's love of Lextended Day, and her recognition of the vital role that Lextended Day plays in her family's life and the life of other families made participation on the board a commitment Sarah was happy to make.

Heather has over 20 years experience in strategy, operations, product, and portfolio management across the healthcare, information technology, and environmental sciences industries. Heather earned her BA from Pennsylvania State University (University Park), her MS in Public Health from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill), and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management. For Heather's family, the Lextended Day program has been a cornerstone of making a busy family life work.
Nominating Committee Members Needed. Each site needs one volunteer to serve on the nominating committee. This committee convenes prior to elections to interview and screen candidates for the board of directors. Time commitment is one to two evenings as well as being an ambassador for promoting board service including reaching out to potential board members.

Interested persons must have a child or children currently enrolled in the Lextended Day program, a broad understanding of the purpose of Lextended Day, and knowledge and/or experience with nonprofit board function and purpose sufficient to fulfill his/her fiduciary duties and responsibilities. The Nominating Committees will examine experience, education, skills, past volunteerism and board experience, and potential disqualifying situations in its consideration of candidates.
Please review the guidelines below to ensure that you have an understanding of the role and function of a nonprofit board. For example, nonprofit boards are charged with oversight and policy making for the organization; they do not manage operations, personnel or other day-to-day business.
Finally, all Board members are encouraged to consider and represent the best interests of the organization as a whole, not merely the sites where their child(ren) are enrolled.
